Tumakuru, July 29, 2025: In a significant development concerning unauthorized cultivation of government land, the High Court has ordered the Tumakuru Deputy Commissioner, the CEO of the Zilla Panchayat, and the Tahsildar to submit a detailed report regarding Bagar Hukum land allotment and related issues. This directive comes amidst ongoing concerns and a filed public interest litigation (PIL) regarding the process.
Social activist Belagumba Venkatesh, who has been a consistent voice advocating for the Bagar Hukum land allotment, confirmed that a PIL has indeed been filed in the High Court. He revealed that the High Court has now set a two-week deadline for the Deputy Commissioner to provide a comprehensive report on the current status and progress of the allotment process.
Sources indicate that there is a perception that the Deputy Commissioner has not yet taken concrete action on the allocations and may have even presented misleading information to the High Court. However, the High Court has taken serious note of the public interest litigation seeking the effective implementation of the Bagar Hukum project. Its recent directive emphasizes the need for officials to expedite the process and furnish a detailed report on the ground reality within the stipulated two-week period.
“The High Court’s order to the Deputy Commissioner, CEO of the Zilla Panchayat, and the Chief Executive Officer to submit a report fills me with great hope,” stated Belagumba Venkatesh. “Therefore, I will promptly inform the concerned officials and continue to pursue the matter diligently to ensure justice for the Bagar Hukum land claimants.”
This development is seen as a crucial step towards resolving long-pending issues surrounding Bagar Hukum land in the district, bringing renewed hope to thousands of cultivators.
